What is Diagnostic Laparoscopy?
Diagnostic Laparoscopy is a procedure
in which physician visualizes the internal organs with the help of a
laparoscope along with correction of any abnormality.
Why laparoscopy is done?
- Evaluation of the tubes and ovaries.
- Removal of endometriosis.
- Identification of any adhesions
- Examination of the uterus and the removing fibroids
Benefits:
- Involves tiny incisions with no discomfort.
- Less adhesion formation
- No long hospital stays
- Rapid recovery.
Procedures
- Mainly done under general anesthesia
- Patient is told not to eat or drink for 8 or more hours before surgery.
- Once the anesthesia is given, the doctor will make a small cut around your belly button.
- Through this cut, a needle is used to fill abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. Which helps to see the organs and move the surgical instruments. Once abdomen is filled with gas, the surgeon will then place the laparoscope through the cut to look around at your pelvic organs.
- 2-3 more small cuts are made, so that other thin surgical instruments can be used to make repairs or move the organs around for a better view.
- After analyzing if there are any scar tissues around the tubes or ovaries are removed & the blocked tubes are opened.
- Removal of endometriosis
- Removal of uterine fibroids
What are the Risks of Laparoscopy?
