Are You Updated Enough for This World Immunization Week 2014?

This year World Immunization Week campaign aims to promote world’s most powerful tools of health-the use of vaccines to guard people of all ages against disease.

Specific goals of this year is-
  • Why you need to get vaccinated.
  • What vaccines are available to protect against disease.
  • To motivate people to check their vaccination status & their family members.
  • Get the vaccine which they need from local health practitioner.
  • When you need booster doses.
  • Whether you need any vaccine before travelling.

Increasing public understanding of the benefits of vaccination is a key objective of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP). The Global Vaccine Action Plan is a framework to improve health by extending the full benefits of immunization to all people. The Global Vaccine Action Plan endorsed by the 194 Member States of the World Health Assembly in May 2012 ― is a framework to prevent millions of deaths by 2020 through more equitable access to existing vaccines for people in all communities.

Immunization is widely recognized & cost effective measure to protect people from life threatening disease. It prevents 2-3 million deaths every year. A lack of information about vaccination, on the other hand, is one of the key reasons why adults consciously choose not to get vaccinated themselves or to vaccinate their children.

VACCINATION RECOMMENDATION FOR ALL AGES

Unfold your Perception - Adults is the carriers of infection who transmit the same to the child. So vaccination becomes a necessity for adults as well as a child. So why live with fear. If every person vaccinates himself and also educate the others on vaccination, the day is not very far when we attain healthy world. ‘’So better late than never’’

Precaution can save your life from being stricken by life threatening diseases then why not go for it. Vaccination is a precautionary measure, which is essential for individuals of all age.

Vaccination for all Age Group
Vaccination schedule slips out of our mind because of two important reasons-

  1. Lack of knowledge about the necessary vaccines
  2. Negligence

Today it’s not only children, who are in need for the vaccines, but every Individual falls into the red zone. The rate of infection is so high that it takes no time for a healthy person to be infected with the contamination.

Globally all the medical communities and institutions are advocating ideal set of vaccines for all age group from zero to hundred years.

Due to urbanization the chances of sexually transmitting diseases are on the rise. There is a vaccine called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine which is specially administered for the same.

Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccine is another such vaccine which has become a need looking at today’s scenario. The disease is such that it happens so suddenly and in no time a person lands into a complete Liver failure and eventually death
Since children are born with a minimal immunity at birth, they are said to be attacked first. Every year there’s a new disease discovered in this area. So the list of vaccination for all age group is increasing day by day.

Vaccines can be overall categorized into 3

  1. Mandatory –Certain vaccines are very essential if not taken, are a risk factor and can cause life threatening disorder. Example- BCG, DPT, TT, MMR
  2. Non-Mandatory - Some are optional and can be taken only if a person wants to protect himself from that particular infection which if taken place. Example- vaccine for Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis B
  3. Region based -3rd set of vaccines are those taken at high alert areas and in certain community when the infection becomes epidemic. Example- Yellow Fever, Swine Flu

WHO has started a unique program called ‘’Global Vaccine Action Plan’’ (GVAP) by which the goal of maximum percentage of ‘good health’ could be attained among every human by 2020.Every person is vaccinated against fatal disorders.

It is misconception about vaccine that it cannot be taken if late. In fact most of the vaccine has a catch up schedule which if not taken at a particular time or age can be taken even in near future at a prescribed age.

The vaccine schedule made throughout the world is depending on the survey and statistical data collected on how risky every individual is. So each and every vaccine is important looking at the present day scenario. So protect yourself from these risk factors, Vaccinate at every stage of life.
